Clubs & Organizations & Programs

Band

St. Laurence boasts one of the finest and most comprehensive music programs of any Catholic High School in the Chicagoland area. The program is geared to meet the needs of the individual student and has something for everyone. The Symphonic, Concert, and Marching Bands have accumulated an impressive list of awards over the years. Students receive academic credit for their participation in the Band. Director – Mr. Trovato

Comedy Club

Are you a comedian? Do you love improv? Get together and do comedy routines with your Vikings. Open to all students. Moderator – Mr. Kozak

Computer Lab Assistant Program

Established in 1983, The Computer Lab Assistants insure the smooth operation of all computer labs and provide assistance to faculty and staff as well. They are ultimately responsible for day-to-day operations of the school’s academic computer resources. The program is in its 34th year and uniquely empowers students to contribute in computer resource acquisition and utilization. They are also involved with maintaining our Web presence. In addition, select members participate as instructors or support in the St. Laurence Computer Enrichment Program which is also open to the faculty. Open to all students once they have completed the Computer Concepts & Applications course with a grade of C or better. Students receive academic credit for being a Computer Lab Assistant. Edmund Outreach Program

This program provides students with the opportunity to work at a soup kitchen sponsored by St. Pius Church in the Pilsen community. Open to all students. Moderator – TBA

Math Team

Students participate in a number of math contests with other High Schools. Open to all students. Moderator – Mrs. Wisniowicz

National Honor Society

NHS is a service organization dedicated to helping the school and the local community. NHS members maintain high academic standards for the members as well as provide service work especially tutoring for other St. Laurence students. Members are selected based on academic and service requirements. Moderator – Mrs. Kasboske.

Peer Mediators

These Students are specially trained as facilitators to resolve conflicts and disputes between students so that an agreeable and beneficial solution for both parties is achieved. Moderator – Mr. Shaw.

Peer Ministry

This group of upperclassmen assists the campus ministry program by facilitating the freshmen and sophomore retreat programs as well as the liturgies and prayer services held throughout the school year. Open to all upperclassmen that are willing to donate time to help their fellow Vikings. Moderator – TBA

Scholastic Bowl Team

If you like Jeopardy, you will really enjoy being on the Scholastic Bowl Team! This team participates in competitions with other high school teams where contestants display their academic knowledge on a wide range of topics. Open to all students. Usually meets once a week on Monday for 1 hour with meets on Tuesday beginning in November through February. Moderator – Ms. Glennon.

Ski Club

If you love to ski or snowboard, then this is the club for you! If you never have skied or snowboarded, that’s OK too. This club will go on two major ski trips on school holidays, usually to ski resorts like Alpine and Cascade Mountain. In addition, there will be a couple of smaller trips after school to nearby ski resorts. The ski club is open to all students. Moderator – Ms. Glennon.

Sports Media

This group of students broadcasts sporting events and other StL special occasions. With the help of the administration, the Sports Media members set up, film, announce and broadcast events live on the internet (Click Here to View). Members do not need previous experience. Moderator – Mr. Gaichas.

Student Council

This organization is composed of 5 upperclassmen who are the Officers and 2 representatives from each homeroom that comprise the Student Council. The body serves as the student government for the student body and acts as a liaison between the students and the administration. The Student Council plans, coordinates and facilitates many functions and activities throughout the year as well as performs and funds service functions and organizations for the school and community. All members of the council are elected by their peers. Moderator – Mr. Clemens

St. Laurence Rock Club

Established in 2007, this collaboration of musicians was created to give students an outlet for their musical abilities outside of the traditional high school band setting. This club provides the students of St. Laurence HS with “studio” space to practice for drummers, guitarists, bassists, singers and anyone with any other musical talent. Practices are professional and organized within an atmosphere of respect for all involved regardless of their musical preferences and abilities. Students are split by genres of music, then grouped together to form bands which then practice songs selected by each other. The ultimate goal to prepare these musicians to play in a “live” setting with the culminating event being a rock n’ roll show held at St. Laurence. Open to all students. Moderator – Mr. Trovato

Valhallan

Do you enjoy taking pictures? How about working on the internet to design yearbook pages? If so, consider joining the Valhallan Staff. This award winning yearbook chronicles the school year with pictures and text. The staff records the history of St. Laurence each year in this publication for the student body and staff. Be a part of preparing your 4 years of memories here at St. Laurence HS. Open to all students. Moderator – Mrs. Walsh
