The Viking football program is built on family, trust, dedication, sacrifice, and perseverance. The coaching staff is committed to helping young men develop as students, athletes, and overall better people. The goal is to have every player leave the program as a better and more enlightened person than when he arrived. With an experienced coaching staff that includes three former NFL players, the Vikings posted a historic season in 2015. They captured a CCL championship and advanced to the IHSA Semifinals for the first time since 1979. The foundation has been laid and the Vikes expect to have continued success in the years to come.

Coach Blackmon has been the head coach since 2012 and, in his short tenure, has returned the program to prominence. Blackmon has taken the Vikings to the playoffs every year since 2014, captured the first CCL title since 1987, and made it to the IHSA semifinals for the first time since 1979. Harold brings a wealth of coaching experience with him, and has coached at the high school, NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III levels, as well as in the National Football League.
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Blackmon was an All-Catholic League, All-State, and Blue Chip Illustrated All-American Quarterback in high school before accepting a full athletic scholarship to Northwestern University, where he was switched to a defensive back. In his junior year, Coach Blackmon broke Northwestern University’s all-time pass break-up record with 24, and is still #1 in that category as well as #6 all-time in interceptions. After his collegiate career, Coach Blackmon was drafted in the 7th round by the Seattle Seahawks where he played for two seasons under Coach Mike Holmgren.
In 2008, Blackmon began his coaching career at North Park University, then returned to Leo Catholic High School as head of the defense for two years. In the summer of 2010, Coach Blackmon accepted an opportunity to serve as a Special Teams intern with the Saint Louis Rams. The following summer he accepted a Quality Control position with the Northwestern Wildcats in his final stop before coming to St. Laurence.
Coach Blackmon is passionate about coaching and feels his biggest asset is his concern for the betterment of every player in his program. His motto is “You work hard for me for four years and I’ll work hard for you for forty years”.
