Essential Element #3
Stand in Solidarity with those Marginalized by Poverty and Injustice.

Essential Element #5
Celebrate the Value and Dignity of each Person and Nurture the Development of the Whole Person.

Now more than ever, the St. Laurence family leans on the Essential Elements of a Christian Brother Education to serve as a guiding light in navigating these historically difficult times, between the pandemic and the current issues that America faces.

Our diversity is a blessing – we are proud that our families consist of different races, religions and socioeconomic backgrounds that enrich our learning community. It is imperative to embrace a diverse community because we feel that learning from different experiences and perspectives prepares students to lead a life of compassion, where every individual is celebrated as a creation in the image and likeness of God. We pray for the world to do the same.

Our many first responder and essential worker families are also a blessing, as they have faced their own set of challenges over the past 2+ months. We pray for those who run to danger to keep us safe and those who serve the common good.

Our number one priority remains the health and wellness of our students, who have faced an incredible amount of challenges over the past two and a half months. We will continue to provide unconditional support to those who need it in light of recent events, and to our students who are impacted by social injustice. And, as a Christian Brother school, we will continue to preach advocacy to our students so that they can have a positive role in society.

We thank our families who make our school beautifully diverse. We thank our families who serve on the front lines.

We will continue to pray for the health and safety of all of our families. We will continue to pray for peace and unity.

UPDATE: St. Laurence is taking a proactive approach this summer to review action steps so that every Essential Element is fully reflected in our school community. We will create a school task force made up of a diverse group of faculty, students and alumni and work directly with schools across the Edmund Rice network to ensure that a variety of perspectives and worldviews are included in the measures we take. We look forward to updating our community on ways they can get involved.
