“I am very excited to take on this role with the St. Laurence football program,” said Coach Lenti. “A lot of success has come out of this program in the last few years, and I am driven to be a part of the staff that sees this team reach the next level. There are many great things going on at St. Laurence, both on and off the field, and I am eager to be a part of this community.”

In the new role, Lenti will utilize his many years of experience to serve as both an advisor and mentor to coaches throughout the entire football program. He will assist in creating synergy among the football coaching staff as they continue in their pursuit of shared goals. Lenti will also observe the program and provide feedback as it relates to the operations at all levels, from freshmen to varsity, and help in areas such as team culture, policies and procedures.

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Lenti to our staff,” said St. Laurence Head Football Coach Harold Blackmon. “This is an outstanding opportunity for everyone in our program – players and coaches – to receive valuable insight from a person with Coach Lenti’s pedigree. As head football coach, it’s my job to make decisions for the long term improvement of the program; adding a coach like Frank only reinforces my vision for St. Laurence football. Frank has an amazing track record of creating sustained success in his program, which is something that we are in the early stages of here at St. Laurence. I look forward to learning from his wealth of experience as he helps us continue to build on the foundation we have laid in recent years.”

St. Laurence football has been one of the most decorated programs in the area the last three seasons. The Vikings advanced to the IHSA State Semifinals in 2015 and 2016 and the Quarterfinals in 2017. They have also won three consecutive Chicago Catholic League championships. Coach Blackmon is a two-time Lawless Award Winner for most outstanding coach in the Chicago Catholic League and was voted the 2016 Daily Southtown Coach of the Year.

“In Coach Lenti, we add another great coach to our award-winning athletics staff” said St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler. “In recent years, we have been fortunate to have hired coaches who have been crucial to our student-athletes’ success both on and off the field. In doing so, we have built several championship-level programs. I know that Coach Lenti will only add to the exemplary leadership we see from our coaches.”

“When the opportunity presents itself to add someone of Coach Lenti’s caliber to your team, you take it” said St. Laurence President Joe Martinez ‘99. “Among our many strategic initiatives is recruiting high-performing staff members, and that holds true for athletics. For all of the success that Coach Lenti has seen on the field, however, he has seen just as much in developing character with those he works with – from players to coaches and beyond. He is an excellent addition to not only the football team, but our entire school community.”

Viking Football begins its season at the 2018 Kickoff Classic held at Northern Illinois University on August 25, where they will take on Benet Academy. Home games this season include St. Joseph on August 31, Hope Academy on September 21 for Homecoming, St. Rita on October 5, Mount Carmel on October 12 and De La Salle October 19.
