The latest round of upgrades to the Charles R. Grunhard Fitness Center has been completed. Four new custom Legend double half-racks were delivered and assembled over Christmas break. Eight new adjustable benches with a custom STL logo were ordered to go with the racks. The new racks add to the versatility of the Grunhard Fitness Center, as a number of exercises can be completed at each station, including bench, squat, incline, decline, shoulder press, deadlift, cleans, jerks, snatch, pullups, and many more. In addition to the increased functionality, the new racks greatly add to the aesthetics. A huge thank you to everyone who donated to the Viking Club (general athletics) and the original Viking Voyage to help make these upgrades possible.

A look at the new and improved half-racks in the Grunhard Fitness Center

Previous upgrades to the Grunhard Fitness Center include new dumbbells and dumbbell racks, a new floor, and a fresh coat of paint. There are additional upgrades that we are still fundraising to complete, including all new plate loaded machines around the perimeter of the room to replace all existing selectorized and plate loaded machines, new bars and plates for all racks and machines, and new mirrors.

The estimated cost to complete the final phases of the upgrades is $35,000. Donations can be made by joining the Viking Club and designating your membership as general athletics. Please contact Jim Tracy at 708-458-6900 x253 or for more information on Viking Club membership. If you are interested in making a larger donation to the project, please contact Bob Hogan in the development office at 708-458-6900 x248 or
