The St. Laurence Model U.N. Team was named “Best Small Delegation” at a recent conference at Carl Sandburg High School.

During the 8th annual Carl Sandburg Model U.N. conference on September 30th, nearly 600 delegates came from all over the state to debate and create solutions for a variety of global issues including cyber-security, the refugee crisis, and gender discrimination.

This was only the third conference for the STL Model U.N. team since its founding in 2016 by junior David Ruiz. The team plans to participate in five more throughout the school year. Additionally, the team will host a “teaching conference” on October 24th for St. Laurence students to experience what Model United Nations is all about.

The Model U.N. team has enjoyed a boost in membership this year with the addition of female students and hopes to continue to “Move Forward Together” as they hone the public speaking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills of the next generation of leaders.

Members of the team include Daniel Villalobos, Billy Rappold, Kirsten Campos, Dan Carroll, David Ruiz, Isaiah Borg, Laila Ismail, Luke Bench, and Megan Blits.
