(Burbank, IL) St. Laurence High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Charley Sopko as the head varsity boys lacrosse coach.

Sopko, a lifelong Oak Forest resident, brings over 25 years of coaching experience to St. Laurence. He is a graduate of Illinois State University, where he was first introduced to lacrosse. Sopko has played an integral role in growing the game in the Southland area, having started the Oak Forest Fury youth program and also launching the lacrosse team at High School District 228. He served as Director and Coach of both programs.

“I’m excited and humbled to be a part of the St. Laurence family,” said Sopko. “I am looking forward to working with these fine student-athletes to further develop their lacrosse skills and to build on the success of the program.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Coach Sopko to lead our lacrosse program,” said St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler. “You would have a hard time finding a coach in our area who has as many years of lacrosse coaching experience as Coach Sopko. I know that his wealth of knowledge, along with his proven track record of connecting with his players, will help continue to grow this program.”
