St. Laurence High School’s freshman/sophomore Scholastic Bowl team was crowned the regular season and tournament champion for the South Metropolitan Scholastic Bowl League.

A 9-0 record propelled the squad to their first trophy on the year, the regular season championship. They carried the momentum into the conference tournament, where they beat Fenwick, Marist and Brother Rice to capture their second trophy. The team was led by sophomore David Ruiz (St. Daniel the Prophet, Garfield Ridge), who scored the most individual points on the team.

The team members include Omar Diaz (St. Mary Star of the Sea, Chicago), Ruben Garcia (St. Louis de Montfort, Oak Lawn), Patrick Hicks (St. Gerald, Oak Lawn), Kip Friend (LJ Hauser, Riverside), Kyle Kraft (Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School, Oak Lawn), Aidan and Liam McCarthy (St. Michael, Orland Park), David Ruiz (St. Daniel the Prophet, Garfield Ridge) and Daniel Villalobos (Our Lady of the Snows, Garfield Ridge).
