President’s Invitational History

The President’s Invitational is the St. Laurence Foundation’s signature event and, in recent years, has attracted 120 of St. Laurence’s most committed and generous benefactors. The event began in 2010 as an opportunity for the Foundation’s board members and benefactors to gather and network while enjoying a stellar day of golf on one of the area’s finest courses. In recent years, the event has grown and now serves as a critical support for St. Laurence’s students who seek to thrive at the next level through the Second Chance Fund.

About the Second Chance Fund

All proceeds will benefit the St. Laurence Foundation’s Second Chance Fund, which provides assistance to St. Laurence High School students who retake the ACT exam. Data show that students can dramatically improve their ACT score by repeating the exam. Oftentimes this increase significantly enhances a student’s chance of gaining acceptance at schools a tier or two above had they only taken the exam once. The Second Chance Fund provides the motivation and financial backing many students require to take multiple opportunities at the test.

About the St. Laurence Foundation

The St. Laurence Foundation was established as a 501c3 with the sole purpose of supporting the mission of St. Laurence High School. The Foundation manages and protects the long term assets of the school through the school’s burgeoning endowment fund.

The Foundation also supports ACT preparation classes, which are offered to all juniors at no cost. Current Washington University law professor, and 1979 St. Laurence alumnus, Dan Keating, serves as the lead instructor for the training. Students who successfully complete the course have experienced as high as a four point increase in their composite score.

Finally, the Foundation also supports students who seek to gain admission to a Tier 1 college or university. About half of St. Laurence graduates will be the first in their family to attend college and can be intimidated by the cost and application process. For those students who satisfy the criteria, the Foundation will assist students who apply to a Tier 1 institution.

About St. Laurence High School

Founded in 1961, St. Laurence is a Catholic, co-educational, college preparatory high school and is the fastest growing Catholic High School in the area. The school’s enrollment will grow to nearly 900 students for the 2021-2022 school year. Providing access to working class families continues to be an important priority as $1.4 million in financial aid was awarded to families who qualified last year.

Students attend St. Laurence from across the city and the greater Chicago metro area as the school’s current student body hails from more than 60 zip codes. Without a racial majority, St. Laurence offers a truly diverse experience where students learn to respect and celebrate their shared perspectives and life experiences.

In recent years, St. Laurence has celebrated numerous successes. The school was the first STEM accredited high school in Illinois. Focusing on a real world learning experience, the curriculum incorporates hands-on training and real world learning opportunities. St. Laurence currently provides invaluable exposure to in-demand, high paying industries through a variety of Career Explorer Programs, currently offering programs in Artificial Intelligence, Aviation and Aquatic Science, just to name a few.
