The 1961 Society

A recognition of leadership,
responsibility and commitment
to excellence

For generations, the strength of the St. Laurence community has been bolstered by alumni and friends who deeply believe in our mission – choosing to support it not just once, but over a lifetime. The 1961 Society recognizes this generosity. Lifetime membership reflects an extraordinary level of commitment and a shared belief in the power of education, leadership and faith to shape the lives of our students.

It is said the mark was never meant to be seen...

In 1961, founding members of a secret society logged entries in a notebook. Observations. Names. Moments. In the margins, almost without thought, they would draw – shapes that felt more like a memory rather than a design. Over time, something special began to emerge. A mane illustrated in profile. No overt details and yet still unmistakable – a lion, an enduring symbol of quiet strength and steady resolve.

It wasn't introduced with fanfare. It didn't need to be. But those who were there recognized it almost immediately – not as a logo, but as a reflection of what united them. It stayed that way for years. Passed along, but never explained. Seen, but never publicized.

Today, it endures as the mark of The 1961 Society – not simply a symbol of recognition, but of belonging.
