St. Laurence Names Dan Gilbert Head Boys Wrestling Coach

BURBANK, IL - St. Laurence High School has announced Dan Gilbert as the school’s new head boys wrestling coach.

Coach Gilbert is well known in the Southland wrestling community, recently serving as the head coach at St. Rita High School from 2019-2024. In that time span, Gilbert nearly quadrupled the size of the wrestling program, producing 20 state qualifiers, five state medalists and one state champion. He is also the owner of G2 Training Center, a mixed martial arts and grappling training facility in Country Club Hills. As a wrestler, he was a two-time IHSA state placer and two-time Junior National All-American.

“Coach Gilbert brings an established track record back to St. Laurence Wrestling,” said St. Laurence Vice President of Athletics Tim Chandler. “In his interviews, he displayed a true knowledge not only of the sport, but also in how to build a Chicago Catholic League wrestling program. With some talented wrestlers returning next year, we are excited for the future of Viking Wrestling.”

Coach Gilbert is also a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer and most recently served as a strength and conditioning coach at Marian Catholic High School. He will be leading weight training classes at St. Laurence.

“I’d like to thank the entire St. Laurence community for this opportunity, and for welcoming me to the Viking family,” said Gilbert. “The tradition of St. Laurence wrestling is incredibly strong with many state medalists, a team state championship, and even an Olympian. I look forward to bringing this program back where it belongs.”

Young wrestlers in second through eighth grade can meet Coach Gilbert at our summer wrestling camp from July 21st to 24th. Details and a link to register can be found at stlaurence.com/summercamps.
