St. Laurence Names Devon Mathews as Head Cheerleading Coach

(Burbank, IL) St. Laurence High School is excited to welcome Devon Mathews as the school’s new Head Varsity Cheerleading Coach.

Coach Mathews joins the Golden Girls after capping off four years as a cheerleader at Loyola University Chicago, two of which were as team captain. Her work experience includes three years with the Universal Cheerleading Association, where she led cheer camps and seminars across the country, judged competitions and networked with coaches and athletes nationwide. She also has served as an all star team coach for multiple age levels at Cheer Destiny All Stars in Chicago.

“Coach Mathews brings an impressive cheer background to St. Laurence,” said St. Laurence Athletic Director Tim Chandler. “Although she is fresh out of college, she already has strong experience coaching and making connections in the cheerleading world. The Golden Girls have a great tradition at St. Laurence, and we look forward to Coach Mathews’ drive and youthful energy taking us to the next level.”

A Louisiana native, Coach Mathews recently graduated from Loyola University Chicago and majored in political science with minors in criminal justice and business.

“I am so excited to join the St. Laurence family and build on the tradition and spirit of the Vikings,” said Coach Mathews. “I look forward to helping teach members of the Golden Girls not only how to be more skilled athletes, but also how to be leaders, ambassadors and spirited individuals for their school and community.”

Grade school students can meet Coach Mathews at the upcoming St. Laurence Cheerleading Grade School Summer Camp from July 11-14 at 2 to 3:30 p.m.
