Education
What if teaching your own classroom was the classroom?
The Education program goes far beyond classroom theory. Through a dual-enrollment partnership with Lewis University and hands-on work with real partner schools, students develop the knowledge, empathy and professional skills that define the very best educators.
Education 1 [prerequisite] introduces you to the field from historical, social, political and ethical perspectives. Students explore instructional methods, classroom technology, standards-based education and strategies for supporting every kind of learner – including students with disabilities and English language learners.
Education 2 focuses on educational psychology and developmental theory, examining how cognitive, emotional and physical development shape the way people learn. You’ll apply key theories of motivation, growth and intelligence to real classroom scenarios.
Students in Education 1 & 2 are also in the field on a weekly basis in our partner schools, St. Albert the Great and Blair, helping them gain first-hand experience about the diverse needs of learners and the best way to reach them.
Education 3 — having experienced grammar school settings, students shadow high school teachers at St. Laurence and also partner with DePaul University for their Catholic Future Teacher Leader Program, where you’ll attend weekly workshops, earn a micro-credential and visit their campus.
Graduates leave with college credits, real classroom experience and the foundation to make a significant impact in this truly meaningful career.
