Engineering
What if your math and science skills actually shaped our daily life?
The engineering curriculum emphasizes the design process, computational thinking and problem-solving skills. Key topics include mechanical design, gear ratios, sensor utilization (distance, color, touch), wiring and programming.
Graduates of this course leave with a dynamic project portfolio, a working understanding of the engineering design process and the kind of collaborative problem-solving skills that apply across almost every technical field.
Engineering Design [open to Juniors] makes students a part of the process. This hands-on, project-based course lets you apply math and science to design, model and build prototypes across multiple engineering disciplines – including Mechanical, Civil, Electrical Engineering and Robotics. Students will also get to hear from engineers across various disciplines to understand what options are available in the rapidly changing technology and engineering disciplines.
Robotics [one semester, open to Sophomores] uses a hands-on, project-based approach to introduce students to the fundamentals of engineering, computer science and the design process. You’ll work in teams to design, build and program robots to solve a series of challenges – culminating in a final, end-of-semester competition.
Students will be using the same FIRST Robotics kits used in competitions. You’ll design, build, wire, program and test robots to perform different tasks. A desire to work collaboratively in groups, use tools to build the robot and learn to wire and program the robot is essential. Students will also rotate roles within the group so everyone will have the responsibility of building, wiring and programming the robot.
